Forbes - Single Version Of Truth: Why Your Company Must Speak The Same Data Language
A group of executives came together to discuss important issues that were challenging their fast-growing organization but soon discovered they weren’t speaking the same language. While they could understand the words coming from each other’s lips, there was a problem with the foundation of their discussion. The baseline numbers that influenced how each executive perceived the company’s present challenges and priorities were different—very different. Rather than agreeing on what next steps to address the company’s growth issues, each executive left the meeting wondering whose figures were correct. Instead of their decision making being informed by data, they were paralyzed by it. The influx of data silos at data-driven companies is creating a “Tower of Babel” syndrome where different teams are unable to collectively build the business because they don’t share the same data language.
